Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith on Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (5 videos)

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith appeared tonight on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, making the first appearance of a current (or any?) Doctor on a US talk show.

First, here’s the intro to the episode:

Before the Doctor was in the house, Chris Hardwick (the Nerdist) stopped by, decked out in a fourth Doctor scarf knit by Tara Wheeler. Below you can see Chris & Craig geeking out and talking Doctor Who:

And then the moment we all were waiting for, Matt Smith on the Late Late Show:

A Dalek Appears on Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson – Video & Photos

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

A 2005-style (bronze) Dalek appeared on tonight’s episode of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson — I found out about it literally 10 minutes before the episode started thanks to Twitter and was able to set my DVR to record it in time.

I took several screen shots which I’ll post below, but first here is a video of the opening for the show, which featured Craig waxing enthusiastic about the Daleks:

And below I’ve posted a quick gallery of screen grabs, including Craig hugging the Dalek, playing with its eye stalk, plunger & gun, and even guest Dennis Miller touching a Dalek bump:

Video – BBC America Doctor Who Series 5 Trailer

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

BBC America has started airing their own trailer for the new series of Doctor Who, featuring Matt Smith as the eleventh Doctor and Karen Gillan as Amy Pond. This new trailer includes new footage not seen in the recently released BBC trailer, so more freeze-frame fun for us fans to over analyze the footage to tide us over until the series begins in April.

From the voice over:

“The Universe is vast and complicated. Sometimes, impossible things just happen and we call them miracles.

All of time and space… Everything that ever happened or ever will… Where do you want to start?”

Peter Davison and Steven Moffat Videos From Gallifrey One 2010

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

As I mentioned in my last post, since I wasn’t able to attend the recent Gallifrey One Doctor Who convention in LA, I’m living vicariously by posting some of the great videos which Doctor Who fans at the con have been sharing with the world.

The latest two are recordings of videos they played on the convention screens, so the picture and sound quality isn’t the best. The first one is a greeting from new showrunner Steven Moffat to the fans attending the convention — this one was shared almost immediately online, unlike the second one. (Note: the first video is a Flickr video and won’t work without Flash, unfortunately. It was the only copy of the video I could find after a pretty exhaustive search)

New Look for K9 Revealed for Upcoming Doctor Who Spin-Off Series

The new look for K9 in the spinoff series

It’s been known for some time that there has been a new Doctor Who spin-off series in the works starring the Doctor’s very own tin dog, K9.

Now we’re getting a first look at the new redesign of the character, who was first introduced in the 1977 Doctor Who story “The Invisible Enemy”.

K9’s new series has been variously called K9 Missions, K9 Adventures but now seems to be just simply K9.

The first series, currently shooting in Australia, will consist of 26 half-hour episodes, and is being developed by original co-creator of K9, Bob Baker.

There’s a Doctor Who Movie Coming Soon If David Tennant Has Anything to Say About It

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

tenth doctor david tennant in a proposed Doctor Who filmAccording to various UK news ranging from the Telegraph to the Sun, tenth Doctor David Tennant may appear in a Doctor Who movie. Tennant has not yet signed on for series 5 in 2010 and is apparently using a feature film as a bargaining chip — offering to do series five…

But only if he can land the role of the Timelord in theaters.

The rights to make a Doctor Who movie have been held by BBC Worldwide, but plans got put on hold when the TV series returned. But now with the popularity of the show as great as it’s ever been, now might be the right time to make a film.

Doctor Who References on The Middleman

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

classic Doctor Who monster the ZygonsI’ve been enjoying a show on ABC Family called The Middleman. I forget how I found out about it, since it’s on a channel I’d normally not watch, but I’ve been enjoying it a lot.

It’s very silly, but clever… almost an updated Avengers (definitely making nods to it anyway — the first episode had an extended sequence that was a spoof recreation of the opening theme to the Emma Peel Avengers — a shortened form of this serves as the opening titles for each episode of The Middleman). It’s also *kind* of like Torchwood but less angsty, “dark” and self-consciously “adult” the way Torchwood tends to be (to it’s detriment IMO).

Doctor Who Downloads – Classic Series Episodes on iTunes

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

It’s a great time to be a Doctor Who fan in the United States — for so many years it was next to impossible to see Doctor Who, and it was incredibly obscure outside of fan circles. These days, with the modern series airing on Sci Fi, BBC America, a few PBS stations, and even getting mentions in TV guide and other mainstream publications, it’s a different world from the long lonely days of the 90s.
