Doctor Who Special “The Waters of Mars” New Preview Video

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

The BBC has released a preview of the upcoming Doctor Who special “The Waters of Mars”, which is set to air “Novemberish” according to exiting producer Russel T. Davies. You can view the clip below, assuming the BBC doesn’t yank it from YouTube.

So far there’s not a lot of official details about the story, beyond the casting of Lindsay Duncan as the Doctor’s companion for the story, and the obvious information that it’s set on Mars. We know that Duncan will be playing the head of Mars Base, and will not welcome the Doctor’s arrival.

John Simm and Bernard Cribbins Confirmed for Doctor Who Specials. Donna and others to Follow?

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Bernard Cribbins & John Simm on Doctor Who setWell, it’s official. Not only is Bernard Cribbins appearing in one of the final David Tennant stories, but on-set photos also show John Simm has returned to Doctor Who! The image at right (credit for the photo goes to alun.vega) shows Cribbins and Simm passing each other on-set.

Cribbins played Donna’s grandfather Wilf Mott in series 4, and of course John Simm appeared in series 3 as The Master. So far, this substantially confirms recent rumors that Tennant’s final stories would feature a return of Martha Jones, Donna Noble, Rose Tyler (again!), Wilf Mott, and the Master.

Doctor Who Monsters the Ood to Return in 2009

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

It seems that an Ood was spotted during filming of what is presumed to be the second of the 2009 Doctor Who specials, starring David Tennant as the Doctor and guest starring Lindsay Duncan as his companion.

Filming is currently going in Newport, Wales; earlier in the week filming took place in a quarry, an old standby of the classic series.

During the filming at the quarry, David Tennant was seen wearing an orange spacesuit much like the one he wore in the series 2 two-parter The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit, which introduced the characters of the Ood.

Friday, January 30th, 2009

This Easter the Doctor Who special “Planet of the Dead” will introduce a new monster the BBC hopes to be as iconic as the Daleks. The Tritovore are described as “half-man half-fly” creatures according to the Daily Mirror.

“They are disgusting and will last long in the memory,” and were designed in the hope of becoming as iconic Doctor Who monsters as the Daleks or the Cybermen.

David Tennant and Michelle Ryan from Planet of the DeadThe Doctor will face the Tritovore alongside new companion Lady Christina de Souza, who is played by Michelle Ryan of “Bionic Woman” and “Eastenders”.  It has been rumored that Ryan’s character will not just appear in the special, but may become the ongoing companion in future specials or series five in 2010.

Paul McGann returns to TV as the 8th Doctor in 2009

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

publicity photo of 8th Doctor Paul McGann from 1996The 8th Doctor, played by Paul McGann in the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie, will start filming one of the forthcoming feature-length specials set to broadcast next year, according to British newspaper The Sun.

The new series of Doctor Who, which began in 2005, picked up the story of the Doctor an unknown time after the events of the TV Movie, and it was strongly implied that the 9th Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) had just regenerated not long before the events of “Rose”.
