In WoW, there are a few hybrid classes and the Shaman class is one of those. For quite a while Shamans as a class were available only to the Horde while Alliance had Paladins in exchange. However, this has changed since the release of the Burning Crusade and Shamans also became available to the Alliance players with the Draenei race.
Resembling the Druid class, Shamans can also drastically change their spec to Casters, Healers and Melee damage dealers. Their talent build will depend on a talent tree you choose – Enhancement, Elemental or Restoration. If you prefer a dps caster that can own a damage meter, the Elemental talent build would be perfect for your Shaman. However, to achieve the best damage output you should equip gear that is rich in sp (spell power), hit rating, crit rating as well as with haste rating. By choosing the Enhancement talents, a Shaman will become a good melee dps. Same as with Elemental Shaman, Enhancement Shammy needs to have specific gear with as much agility as possible. An Enhancement Shaman will possess the ability to call upon two allies – the ghost wolves to fight by his side. These wolves come in handy especially while playing PvP.
A Restoration Shaman is considered to be a great healer. A Shaman has really good single-target healing spells and is also favored in raids because of his ability to heal multiple targets with a Chain Heal. Earth shield is another very useful spell a Shaman can put on himself, a party member or a tank who is receiving damage. The most important thing when it comes to gear for a Shaman healer is mp5 (the amount of mana regenerated per 5 seconds.
Shamans are able to wear cloth armor, leather armor and mail armor. As they are leveling they will need to wear leather but as soon as they get the ability to wear armor made from mail, they should switch. Mail armor is always better for a Shaman since it’s stronger and has better stats. A mail armor made for a Shaman will have all the stats he will need and since Shamans use mana for most of their skills, their armor will also have intellect. Many players will tell you that Enhancement build is great for leveling. An Enhancement Shaman doesn’t need as much mana as an Elemental Shaman and therefore he will drink a lot less which of course, will speed up your leveling. Do not forget to put some points in a special ability – the ghost wolf form since it will enable you to turn into your ghost wolf instantly!.
Another thing which made Shamans very popular in groups, raids and in PvP are their totems. Shamans’ totems are divided into four groups – Fire, Air, Water and Earth totems. The strength of his totems will depend on his build and in any case with the use of totems, a Shammy can boost his group drastically. Since there are four groups of elements, a Shaman can use one totem from each group so in total he can cast 4 different totems.
Overall the Shaman class is a great versatile class to play because you can easily switch between healing and damage dealing. Be assured that you won’t get bored while playing this class since there are so many options to choose from.
